Running in the Cold

I love it! I love the cold. I love the smell of wood fires burning. It also seems that cold weather makes me run faster. I knocked 4 seconds off my PB tonight so it is now 5:53min for a km. I still surprise myself with what I am capable of doing and how much I am willing to push myself and how much I am still enjoying going out running and that I want to go running over walking.

I only went out for a quick run tonight as Trent had to go out and I only had about 30mins to get a run in. 2.72km is better than nothing and as I said I got a PB so it could have been because I had to hurry as well. Either way, I am impressed with myself.

Heading out for my run

Distance travelled today: 2.72km
Distance travelled so far: 424.08km
Distance left to travel: 25,333.67km

  2. I've been reading along since you started and just wanted to say how impressed I am with your determination. You've done really well to stick to it, first through the heat and now the cold.
I was wondering what changes you can see in yourself since you started this. I'm sure you've lost weight but do you feel any other physical / mental changes?

It's because of you that I'm back on a bike for the first time in 22 years. I took inspiration from you just getting out and doing it. I could get a lift to work or catch a bus but after reading you I decided first to walk, then to ride a scooter (foot powered, no motor) and now to get on a bike. I do 8.2 klms 5 times a week and have really enjoyed it. It's cold but once I get going I forget about the cold and enjoy the early morning freshness and quiet. So thanks for giving me the idea that I could do something similar. Who knows maybe I'll even start running again :-)

    Take care

  3. Wow Brilly. Thank you. I never set out to be an inspiration to anyone (then again who does) but to think that I have inspired you to get on your bike again is very encouraging. It makes me want to keep going even more.

As for changes since starting yes there have been a few. Weight loss is a big one. I am definitely fitter and the running helps me sleep better (I am a terrible sleeper). It has also made me happier as I can use the running for stress release and it works wonders. I have also learnt to push myself in a way I never have before and I am loving it.

    Enjoy your riding
